Pinouts of PC Slot

The PC slot that we are using contains 62 connections.

The connector is called an edge connector.

The signals are present on two different sides.

Determination of size of different cards

Different cards can be identified by their size.

This is followed for all type of cards (i.e. sound card, VGA card, modem etc).

Cards will be shown during the class.

This card can be used to interface any device with the PC.

Any IC that can be used to input or output data from any device can be used here.

Checking of card using debug

Debug is a dos program that can be used to check any type of hardware connected to PC.

To start DEBUG type debug at the command prompt & press enter.

A prompt ( - ) will appear.

To read data type ( I ) followed by the port address.

Similarly to send data type ( o ) followed by port address.
